Re: Climate change

Did you know?

That more than 105,000 sq km of forest are being destroyed ever year. This is an area larger than Ireland and Wales together.

That forest, especially tropical rainforests, contain a huge variety of plant and animal species. If the forest are cut down at the present rate, around half the world's remaining rainforest will have vanished by the year 2010,with the loss of 5-10 per cent of all the species on Earth.

I can feel it now. the weather is unpredictable due to the negative excess of deforestation

Re: Climate change

I really feel that climate change is already taking its toll on humans and how they go about their daily life.

It was long before when you can dictate just about when it is going to start raining and when is it going to be really hot.  But now, I think it would be fair to say that it is very unstable already.

And with that, arises new counts of sickness and with areas like these, it would not be of great help to recess its widespread.

Re: Climate change

After Pablo and Yolanda, no one even wrote a comment on this Forum Topic... That's quite unusual!!

Any ideas?
Should we reinforce our coasts and envelop the entire perimeter of our islands with a combined layering of bamboo, some hard wood (molave, narra, agoho?) or some edible fruit-bearers (sampaloc, kaimito/star apple, santol)?

Any experiences you can share to our coastal Pinoy brothers?

Re: Climate change

Last Directors' Council Meeting at PCAARRD, the tech transfer group presented apparently an over-grand idea (grand na, over pa!) for a SAFE Program... S&T Action Frontline for Emergencies and Hazards.

Unfortunately, between the two, E & H, in seven components --- the DC decided to pursue the SAFE Ligtas Initiatives first... meaning, emergencies muna.

But it 's a good start!

Of course, PCAARRD won't be "running" to different parts of the country to "save the day" .. .. .. the SAFE Program will be empowering the enhanced Regional Consortia. Sooo ...

MORE POWER !!

Re: Climate change

If we are going to "empower the enhanced Regional Consortia", which do you think is the better approach: a national conference (and action workshop) involving all the regions together, or a regional conference (where PCAARRD will visit the consortium one by one)?

Its a question of avoiding "kopyahan" to be regionally creative OR encouraging an exchange of ideas to develop a better unified approach (with regional flavors probably added afterwards) ...

What do you think??

Re: Climate change

PCAARRD, through the Forestry & Environment Res. Div. (FERD), just sponsored "Updates on Climate Change & Philippine Actions Towards a Climate Resilient Future" last Nov 11, 2015.

Just reply here if you want PDFs of the speakers' presentations.
