Re: Ginger Production in a 4 gallon seedling bag

Hi there! Meron ba mga ka-forum natin dito na me alam about how to produce Ginger by planting in a plastic seedbag with burnt rice hull as medium? I heard talk about this method of producing ginger, economical and really space saver.

They say you can harvest 5 to 9kgs of ginger per bag. there's a lot of potential in this method what with prices of ginger at 70-90 pesos per kilo. Not bad, di ba?

i'm a newbie in this matter and I would like to learn.Baka pwede ang ibang medium aside from burnt rice hull.

Here is the response of our technical expert re: your query.
Growing ginger in plastic bags is just like growing any other vegetable in pots The medium can be anything that provides nutrients to ginger ( like compost, manure, soil, and rice hull ash). This is done in areas where soil is infected with bacterial wilt, otherwise it is still more economical to grow ginger in the field/soil.

Re: Ginger Production in a 4 gallon seedling bag

kc i just heard dat u can grow ginger in a seedbag using carbonized rice hull (CRH), i'm just wondering if CRH is enough as medium and the source of nutrients for ginger production.I would like to know what is in carbonized rice hull dat could be very beneficial in growing ginger. Thanks!

You can use also saw dust.

Ilang kilo naman po ang average weight per hill ng ginger harvest ninyo using this kind of planting medium? At what age of the plant do you harvest?

WE harvest our ginger when the leaves turned yellowish。d sya basta basta nabubulok pag na attain yong tamang maturity nya. ang yield per hill approx nasa 150 grams.

I was told by a friend from davao that ginger grown on plastic seed bags using CRH can attain harvest weights of 3 - 5 kgs. I have no actual data to the veracity of this info that's why I am asking around if this can be possible.

Re: Ginger Production in a 4 gallon seedling bag

Nag attend ako ng lecture regarding ginger production. The lecturer is from Cagayan de Oro City. Planting ginger in cement sack with rice hulls and chicken dung. ang yield daw per sack with 4 binhi ay 6 to 14 kls. Kung mag tanim ka ng 1000 bags maka harvest ka lang ng 10 kls.at average per bag multifly mo ng 1000 is 10,000 kls..Ang presyo daw ng ginger ngayong for export is 90 per kilo.. pls. enlighten me regarding this figure parang too good to be true...

Re: Ginger Production in a 4 gallon seedling bag

hi all,

mula sa department of agriculture:

"6 na Uri ng LUYA

    Native

Ginger thrives well almost anywhere in the country.

Makipag ugnayan sa Department ogf Trade and Industry, Bureau of Export Trade and Promotion (Telephone No. 818-17-24), Senator Gil J. Puyat Avenue, Makati City 1200, Metro Manila."

Re: Ginger Production in a 4 gallon seedling bag

i wish to resurrect the thread and hope i could get some help. i am very interested in ginger farming, especially the vacuum method. i heard a lot about it, some are using polybags, others do dig holes and simply put the planting materials in the same hole. whatever the method is, i just want to know if there are available materials for sale or sites where i can go. i know the gurus are here, please help me with this. thanks.

16

Re: Ginger Production in a 4 gallon seedling bag

please give us the full details on how to plant ginger using the vacuum method..thanks

Re: Ginger Production in a 4 gallon seedling bag

Im interested to know more about planting Ginger in Cement sacks too.. Please post here if find more info..

And here are some info I gathered:

Harvesting

Harvest ginger when the leaves turn yellow and wither. This is about 8-10 months after planting, depending on the variety used. To harvest, dig each hill with a spading fork or a hoe, pull the entire plant, shake off the soil, lay on top of the bed, and cut off the stem without breaking the rhizomes. Care should be practiced during harvesting to minimize injury that results to faster weight loss and susceptibility to decay.

Harvest according to the following market requirements: Market/Product Forms  = Harvesting Period (months after planting)

◦domestic market  = 8-11
◦salted and pickled 5-7 pickled (for export)  = 3
◦dehydrated  = 6-8
◦fresh ginger (for export)  = 7-10

Re: Ginger Production in a 4 gallon seedling bag

Hello po,

Pwede po ba itanim ang gigner sa shady area like under sa mga manga?

22

Re: Ginger Production in a 4 gallon seedling bag

As what I know, ginger needs about 60-80% of sunlight.  So if you put them on shaded area, I don't think you'll produce good harvest.

Re: Ginger Production in a 4 gallon seedling bag

It will also be a good fertilizer.  But be sure to complete the composting process kasi mainit yung ipot ng itik, kapag nilagay mo sa halaman, baka maaapektuhan mamatay pa.

But if you really want to make carbonized rice hull, manguha ka na lang ng bago sa mga konohan libre lang po ang mga yan.

Re: Ginger Production in a 4 gallon seedling bag

You can experiment adding soil amendments if you like to try planting from sack.  Aside from decompose rice hull, you might want to consider adding kusot, and of course vermicast.  Vary the components of your soil amendments so by harvest time, you'll see what's really effective.  You can also try experimenting varying number of rhizomes per sack to know which will have gain more weight.
